President Md. Shahabuddin is set to address the 13th National Parliament, BNP Standing Committee member and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.
Speaking to reporters after leaving the National Parliament Building, the Home Minister shared the agenda for the inaugural session scheduled for Thursday, March 12.
A primary task of the first day will be the presentation of 133 ordinances. Minister Ahmed explained that a "Special Committee" will be formed to scrutinize these measures. This committee will evaluate each ordinance to determine which will remain in force as law and which will be allowed to lapse.
As the current parliament lacks a Speaker and Deputy Speaker, the session will initially be presided over by a senior member of the House.
"The Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be elected following a proposal from the Leader of the House," Ahmed stated. He added that Prime Minister and Leader of the House, Tarique Rahman, will make the final decision regarding these nominations.
Earlier on Wednesday, the ruling BNP parliamentary party held a meeting at the National Parliament Building. Chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the meeting focused on legislative priorities and strategy for the upcoming session.
