


Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed (Bir Bikram), the Minister for Liberation War Affairs, has been elected as the Speaker of the 13th National Parliament.
The election took place on Thursday (March 12) during the first session of the new parliament. The motion for his election was proposed by Mohammad Nurul Islam (MP, Barguna-2) and seconded by Rakibul Islam (MP, Khulna-3).
The proceedings were presided over by Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, who presented the proposal to the house. The motion was passed unanimously by voice vote.
The session began at 11:00 AM following a summons by President Md. Shahabuddin. Earlier in the session, Leader of the House Tarique Rahman proposed Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain to chair the initial proceedings. This was supported by senior lawmakers, including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Naib-e-Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, supported the leadership's proposal but noted that prior consultation on parliamentary appointments would be welcomed in the future.
