Road construction contractor in Satkhira lynched: Police guard work completed

There have been allegations of insulting Zahid Hasan, the owner of M/S Chowani Enterprise, a contractor engaged in road construction work in the Baddipur Colony area of Satkhira Sadar Upazila.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning during the carpeting work on the old Satkhira Soj to Gobindapur Bazar via Jeyala road. The estimated cost of which is 1 crore 12 lakh 8 thousand 6 hundred 93 taka. Later, in view of the contractor's application, the contractor completed the work under police guard with the help of the upazila administration on the instructions of the District Executive Engineer.

Satkhira Sadar Upazila Engineer Yakub Ali said that during the carpeting, some local bad boys demanded extortion from the contractor, and when they did not pay their extortion money, they dug up the constructed road with a saber. During this time, they blocked our people and threatened us in various ways.

Later, seeing their aggressive state, the work was completed under the guard of Satkhira Sadar Police Station members with the help of the Upazila administration.

Satkhira Sadar Police Station OC Masudur Rahman said, I came to know through the Upazila Executive Officer that some scoundrels were obstructing the government work in Baddipur, later I sent a sub-inspector and two constables to complete the work.

In this regard, contractor Zahid Hasan said, we are partners in the government's development work, obstructing our work means taking the country backward. Not giving money to all the scoundrels who asked me for money has humiliated me to the extreme, with only a few works left.
