


Two people, including the driver, were killed and two others injured when an engine van carrying cattle lost control and fell into a roadside ditch on the Satkhira–Khulna highway.
The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon near a brick kiln beside the Baligadar intersection in Kumira area under Patkelghata Police Station.
The driver, Ishar Ali (60), a resident of Dhulihar in Satkhira Sadar upazila, died at the scene. Another passenger, Motaleb Hossain of Dhanadia village in Dumuria upazila of Khulna, later died at Samek Hospital, doctors said.
Police and eyewitnesses said Ishar Ali, along with Md Mamun Hossain, Motaleb Hossain and Md Aminul Islam, had left Abad Hat in Satkhira in the morning for Khornia area of Dumuria upazila, carrying three cattle in the engine van. When the vehicle reached the Baligadar intersection, a rear wheel punctured, causing the driver to lose control. The van plunged into a deep roadside ditch and overturned.
Local residents rushed to the spot and rescued the injured, taking them to nearby hospitals. Three injured were admitted to Satkhira Medical College Hospital, where Motaleb Hossain died during treatment. The other two injured passengers are currently undergoing treatment.
Officer-in-Charge AHM Lutfal Kabir of Patkelghata Police Station confirmed the incident. He said one person died on the spot and another died at the hospital. Police are preparing the bodies for autopsy and taking legal action.
