


State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Mir Shahe Alam MP, urged students to balance academic excellence with physical fitness during a scholarship distribution ceremony on Saturday.
The event, organized by the Engineer M.A. Rashid Foundation, was held at Baridhara South Point School and College on May 9. Addressing the students as Chief Guest, the Minister emphasized the importance of dreaming big regardless of academic results and lauded the foundation’s contribution to the education sector.
The Minister highlighted that 80% of the teaching staff at the institution are women, calling it a testament to the government's commitment to women’s empowerment. He further detailed national progress under the current administration, citing the introduction of "Family Cards" and "Farmer Cards" designed to support marginalized rural communities.
"Beyond the classroom, we must prioritize sports and exercise for the physical and mental growth of our youth," the Minister stated. He also touched upon broader developmental initiatives, including nationwide canal digging, reforestation, and honorariums for Imams and Muazzins.
A total of 45 students received awards: 22 in the talent pool, 13 in the general grade, and 10 under the institution’s internal quota.
Special Guest Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan, Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), praised the school’s welfare initiatives and pledged the City Corporation’s continued support for such educational programs.
The ceremony was presided over by Engineer M.A. Rashid, Founder Chairman of South Point School and Managing Director of Karnaphuli Group. The event concluded with a cultural program following the official awards and photo session.
