A roundtable meeting titled 'What Sufis can do in the current context' organized by the Bangladesh Sufi Unity Forum was held at the Sultan Ahmed Hall of the Chattogram Press Club.

The roundtable meeting was held under the chairmanship of the forum's chairman, journalist Nur Mohammad Rana, and moderated by the secretary general and organizer Master Muhammad Abul Hossain. The chief guest was the Nayeb Sajjadanshin Shahsufi Syed Sajjad Hossain Sohel (MaziA), Nayeb Sajjadanshin of Maizbhandar Darbar Sharif.

The main discussant was the co-chairman of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jama'at, Principal Allama Mufti Syed Muhammad Asiyor Rahman Alqaderi (MaziA). The speakers at the roundtable meeting said that Sufism is the essence of Islam. The pacifist liberal philosophy of Islam, Sufism, has been propagated by the saints in various countries throughout the ages.

The Sufi saints and elders have not represented extremism but rather represented humane Islam. Maintaining peace and harmony at all times is the philosophy and teaching of Sufis. Therefore, Sufi humane Islam must be promoted to bring peace and public comfort back to the turbulent conflict-ridden world.

The speakers called on the government to immediately prosecute the attackers of the Sufi shrine, stop the killing of innocent people by creating mob terrorism, and ensure that people of all ideologies can celebrate their rituals and festivals without any hindrance. The speakers urged the followers of Sunni and Sufi orders to forget their differences and unite in the current hostile situation in the country. The forum's vice chairman, Sufi researcher SM Barkat Akash, delivered the welcome speech.

Chief guest Shah Sufi Syed Sajjad Hossain Sohel said, Sufi Sunni followers believe in the peaceful philosophy of Islam. We do not quarrel with anyone. However, we Sufis are being attacked by extremists today. At this moment, we need strong unity. Allama Syed Asiyor Rahman said, Ahle Sunnat Wal Jama'at is the mainstream of Islam and the path to true salvation. We have to move forward unitedly by embracing the Sunni ideology. In the president's speech, Nur Mohammad Rana said, strong unity of Sunni Sufis is necessary in the current context.

If we are not united, all kinds of disasters can befall us in the coming days. Forum Secretary General Master Muhammad Abul Hossain expressed his thanks and gratitude to the participants in the roundtable meeting.
