Nine people were injured in a violent clash between two parties over a long-standing land dispute in the Banger Hat area (Jamir Bari) of Botmari Union, Kaliganj, Lalmonirhat, on Saturday afternoon (December 13).

The conflict involves a dispute over the ownership of 7 acres of land that has existed for more than seven years between local residents Alhar Hossain (Badal) and Abar Hossain. The clash broke out on Saturday afternoon when Sujan Mia (son of the deceased Abdul Abahar) and his family attempted to access the land, and were stopped by people associated with Alhar Hossain Badal.

The two sides attacked each other using indigenous weapons and sticks. In addition to the nine injuries, a Mahindra truck used for cultivating the land was also reportedly vandalized during the clash. Upon receiving information, the police immediately went to the scene and brought the situation under control, according to Abu Siddique, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaliganj Police Station.

At least nine people from both sides were injured. Five of the injured are currently undergoing treatment at the Kaliganj Upazila Hospital (Upazila Health Complex). Four others have been taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

The OC stated that further legal action will be taken based on the complaint filed by the parties involved.
