A journalist was attacked and his equipment vandalized while performing his professional duties in Lalmonirhat. This has caused strong condemnation and anger among the local journalist community.

On Saturday (December 13) afternoon, the camera and mobile phone used by Sabbir Ahmed Lavlu, Lalmonirhat district correspondent of Star News, BSS and Daily Naya Diganta, were vandalized while collecting news and recording videos of the clash.

Eyewitnesses said that some people obstructed journalist Sabbir Ahmed Lavlu's work while collecting news. At one stage, they attacked him, vandalized his camera and mobile phone and harassed him.

Local journalists have strongly condemned and protested the incident. They said that this is a direct attack on independent journalism. They demanded that the attackers be identified immediately, arrested and given exemplary punishment.

In this regard, Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abu Siddique said that legal action will be taken if the aggrieved journalist files a written complaint.
