Chattogram's Chhota Sajjad and his wife Tamanna Sharmin have been granted bail in four separate murder cases. However, they are not currently eligible for release as several other cases are pending against them.

According to lawyers, there are a total of 19 cases against Chhota Sajjad, 10 of which are murder cases. There are also cases of double murder and public killing of acacia trees in Chattogram against him. On the other hand, there are a total of eight cases against Tamanna, including multiple murder cases.

Media reports quoted Sajjad's lawyer Abu Bakkar Siddique as saying that imprisoned Chhota Sajjad and Tamanna have been granted bail from the High Court in four cases. The relevant bail papers have been sent to the prison.

According to court sources, the High Court granted bail to Chhota Sajjad and Tamanna on September 15 in the murder case of shopkeeper Shahidul Islam of Chandgaon Police Station on August 19, 2024. On the same day, three people including them were granted bail in the Wasim Akram murder case of Panchlaish police station.

After that, on September 22, the same bench also granted them bail in the murder case of shopkeeper Md. Faruk of Panchlaish police station and the murder case of Aftab Uddin Tahsin. The High Court bench comprising Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam and Justice Yusuf Abdullah Sumon granted bail in all four cases until the rule was settled.

However, even though the bail order was issued, it took time for it to become effective. High Court Assistant Registrar Md. Yusuf Ali signed the relevant orders on September 18 and October 5. After about two and a half months, these bail letters reached the Chattogram court on December 8.

Shah Syed Sharif, the jailor of Chattogram Central Jail, said that there are a total of 16 cases against Chhota Sajjad, of which bail letters have been received from the High Court in three cases. Bail letters have been received in four cases of his wife Tamanna.

Currently, Chhota Sajjad is in Rajshahi Jail and Tamanna is in Feni Jail. The relevant documents have been sent to the two jails. Earlier, on March 15 this year, law enforcement agencies arrested Chhota Sajjad, a top terrorist listed in Chattogram, from the capital. Sajjad Hossain, son of Md. Jamal of Shikarpur Union in Hathazari, Chattogram, is known as 'Chhota Sajjad' or 'Buri's grandson' in the city. He is known to be a follower of the fugitive Sajjad Hossain alias Boro Sajjad.

Almost two months after Chhota Sajjad's arrest, on May 10, the police arrested his wife Tamanna in a case filed in connection with a double murder case involving a shooting in a private car in Chandanpura area of Baklia Access Road under Chawkbazar Police Station in Chattogram City.

Chhota Sajjad and his wife Tamanna are not yet freed despite being granted bail as multiple cases are pending.
