The leaders of the party have alleged obstruction and attacks on the election campaigns of Bangladesh Islamic Front candidates in various constituencies in Chattogram. Abdur Nabi Al Qaderi, president of the Chattogram Metropolitan North Islamic Front, made the allegation at a press conference at the party's office on Momin Road in the city on Thursday.
In a written statement, he said, "Since the allocation of the symbol, a vested interest group, supported by the Greater Sunni Alliance and nominated by the Bangladesh Islamic Front, has been trying to create a situation of violence, terrorism, and chaos, fearing the public support for the candle symbol candidates."
Commenting on the Sunni people's united election in seven constituencies of Chittagong, Al Qaderi said, "An unprecedented wave of people has been created in favor of the candle symbol in the seats. A group, frightened by this wave of people, has resorted to muscle power, information terrorism, and planned violence."
Abdur Nabi Al Qaderi alleged that the banner and festoon of the candle party are being torn down regularly in the Chattogram-6 Raozan constituency. On January 31, the campaign of the candle party candidate Ilyas Noori was directly attacked in Kagtia Bazar.
“Although the video of the microphone snatching went viral, no action has been taken against the culprits.”
He said that similarly, the public relations of the candle party candidate Iqbal Hasan in the Chattogram-7 Rangunia constituency are being obstructed and intimidated.
It was alleged at the press conference that in addition, the election office of the candle party candidate in the Chattogram-13 Anwara Karnaphuli constituency was attacked and vandalized on February 1. The candidate of the Chattogram-14 constituency, former Vice Chairman Solaiman Farooqui, has been threatened to withdraw his candidacy. Public relations are being obstructed in Chattogram-12 and Chattogram-8 constituencies.
Abdur Nabi Al Qaderi raised several demands, including - arresting those who attacked their candidates in different areas, obstructing their campaigns, and ensuring exemplary peace. Creating a 'level playing field' to create equal opportunities for all candidates. Implementing a zero tolerance policy against the use of muscle power. Deploying the army, BGB, and law enforcement forces in all risky areas to ensure a smooth voting environment for voters. A special investigation cell should be formed under the Election Commission to properly investigate incidents of code of conduct violations and violence. Responding to a question about who is involved in the alleged irregularities, Chattogram North District President of the Islamic Front, Abdur Rahim Muniri said, "We have pictures of all those who did it.
Since no one did this under any banner, the law enforcement forces will take action against them." He alleged that those who are being nominated as party agents in Raozan, Rangunia, and Chattogram-8 constituencies are being threatened at their homes.
Among others present at the press conference were Chattogram Metropolitan South President Yunus Taiyabi Raqtibadi and General Secretary Ali Hossain.
