In Khulna-6 constituency, the shield symbol defeats the paddy sheaf

In the 13th National Parliament Election of Khulna-6 (Paikgacha-Koira) Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Maulana Abul Kalam Azad has been elected with the shield symbol. He defeated his nearest rival BNP candidate SM Monirul Hasan Bappi by a margin of 25,443 votes.

According to unofficial results, the winning candidate Maulana Abul Kalam Azad received 148,956 votes. On the other hand, SM Monirul Hasan Bappi, who contested with the paddy sheaf symbol, received 123,513 votes. The results were announced from the office of the Returning Officer after the counting of votes.

Among other candidates, Bangladesh Communist Party candidate Advocate Prashant Kumar Mondal (scythe) got 1,502 votes. Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Asadul Fakir (fan) got 2,928 votes and Bangladesh Jatiya Party candidate Mustafa Kamal Jahangir (plough) got 2,672 votes.

According to Election Commission sources, there were a total of 155 polling stations in Khulna-6 constituency. The total number of voters in this constituency is 4,23,331. Out of these, 2,12,869 are male voters, 2,10,461 are female voters and 1 is a third gender voter. The total votes received in the election were 2,27,418. In addition, there were 16,195 invalid votes.

Khulna-6 constituency is an important coastal constituency of the country. This constituency consists of 17 unions and 1 municipality. Strict security measures were taken by law enforcement agencies in the entire area surrounding the election. Police, Ansar and other forces members performed their duties at the centers. The officials concerned said that the voting was completed in a peaceful atmosphere from morning to afternoon.

After the voting, the counting of results by center began in the evening. As the results started coming in from different centers, the candidate with the beard symbol gradually moved forward. In the end, he defeated the candidate with the rice sheaf by a margin of 25,443 votes and secured victory.

It is worth noting that since Khulna-6 (Paikgacha-Koira) constituency is a coastal town, the issues of development, river erosion, waterlogging and employment were important topics of discussion in the election. Before the election, various candidates sought the support of the voters by assuring them of solving these problems. In the end, the candidate with the beard symbol won by the verdict of the voters.
