


Security measures have been significantly reinforced in the border areas under the operational control of the 29th Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion in Phulbari Upazila, Dinajpur, following the recent shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and a potential independent candidate for Dhaka-8.
Regular patrolling activities along the border have been stepped up. Ten additional special patrol teams have been deployed to augment regular border surveillance.
Three temporary check posts have been established in key locations in the Dhaka intersection, Birampur town, and Mohanpur Bridge areas of Phulbari town. Intensive searching of vehicles is being conducted at these check posts.
A BGB press release issued on Saturday (December 13) afternoon cited the shooting of Osman Hadi as a serious security incident. The decision to tighten vigilance is based on Reliable intelligence sources suggest that the terrorists involved in the shooting may attempt to escape into neighboring countries through any border area of Bangladesh.
There is a simultaneous fear of terrorist groups potentially crossing the border from India and infiltrating Bangladesh.
Lieutenant Colonel AM Jaber Bin Jabbar, commander of the Phulbari (29 BGB) Battalion, confirmed that the search activities targeting suspicious persons and vehicles in the border areas will continue.
