


The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) collected two nomination papers on Sunday for the upcoming presidential election.
Chief Whip of the National Assembly Nurul Islam Moni and senior BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi collected the forms on behalf of the party from the Returning Officer's office at the Election Building in Agargaon Dhaka.
The Election Commission (EC) announced the official schedule for the presidential election last Thursday. EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed detailed the timeline, stating that nomination papers can be submitted to the Returning Officer between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM on Thursday August 13.
The commission will scrutinize all submitted nomination papers on Sunday August 16 starting at 10:00 AM. Candidates wishing to withdraw their candidacy will have until 4:00 PM on Tuesday August 18 to do so.
Following the completion of candidate finalization voting will take place in the session hall of the National Assembly from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Thursday August 20.
Regarding legal compliance Secretary Akhtar Ahmed noted that the Chief Election Commissioner finalized the schedule after consulting the Speaker of the National Assembly, in accordance with Section 5(3) of the Presidential Election Act, 1991. He confirmed that the voter list is fully prepared and further administrative activities will continue per statutory rules.
