A human chain was organized in front of the administrative building of Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) at the call of the Bangladesh Inter-University Employees Federation, demanding the implementation of the Ninth Pay Scale.

On Sunday, 16 November, employees from various departments of PSTU protested the delay and discrimination in implementing the new pay scale. They demanded that the disparities be removed and the Ninth Pay Scale be implemented by 15 December 2025.

Regarding the issue, PSTU employee Md. Abu Musa said, “Commodity prices in the market have increased significantly, but our salaries and allowances have not increased accordingly. As a result, our living conditions are becoming more distressing day by day.”

Another member of the Employees Federation, Md. Alamgir Hossain Alam, said, “While the salaries of officers from 10th grade to 1st grade have been raised considerably, the rate of increase in our salaries is very minimal. We constantly struggle to manage our family expenses.”

Office assistant Mosharraf Hossain said, “We buy our groceries from the same market as the officers of grades 1 to 10. So why such disparity in our salaries? We demand that this discrimination be removed within the tenure of the current government.”

Speakers at the human chain also urged the government to intervene and implement a discrimination-free pay scale before Victory Day.
