Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has promised that if his party comes to power, it will ensure representation for expatriate Bangladeshis in the national parliament.
Currently visiting the United States, the Jamaat chief made the pledge during a civic reception in New York on Friday (October 24). He praised the contributions of expatriates, referencing their decision to withhold remittances during the July uprising as a powerful protest against the former government.
Rahman urged expatriates to participate actively in the democratic process, stressing the importance of simply casting a vote. He also outlined his party's commitment to reforms in education, economy, employment, the judicial system, and to ensuring the dignity and security of women.
SM Khaliduzzaman, Jamaat’s possible Dhaka-17 nominee, speaking as a special guest, reinforced the party’s priority to protect the rights of expatriates, who he claimed have long faced discrimination.
