Huzaifa Afnan (9), a child from Teknaf, was hurt by gunfire from across the Myanmar border and remains in critical condition. She is currently receiving life support in the ICU of Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
Doctors have stated that the bullet is still lodged in the child's brain. To alleviate excess pressure on the brain, a portion of the skull has been temporarily opened through surgery, which is a standard treatment procedure.
A meeting of the medical board, which has been established to decide on Huzaifa's treatment plan, is set to take place on Tuesday (January 13). Further medical actions will follow the board's recommendations.
Previously, on Sunday (January 11), Huzaifa was injured in the Teschi Bridge border area of Hwaikyung Union in Teknaf, Rakhine State of Myanmar, near Bangladesh, around 9 am. She was admitted to the ICU of Chattogram Medical College Hospital at approximately 6 pm that same day.
Professor Harun Or Rashid, the head of the Anesthesia and ICU Department at Chattogram Medical College Hospital, mentioned that the child's condition remains unchanged. A comprehensive decision regarding her treatment will be revealed after the medical board meeting.
