The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has described the death of a BNP leader during a military operation in Chuadanga as "unfortunate and unacceptable." Following the incident, the camp commander and all personnel involved have been withdrawn to their cantonment pending an inquiry.
The deceased, Md Shamsuzzaman Dablu, 50, was the general secretary of the Jibannagar municipality unit of the BNP.
According to the ISPR, security forces conducted a raid in Jibannagar Upazila around 11:00 PM on Monday to recover illegal weapons. Acting on specific intelligence, they detained Shamsuzzaman from a pharmacy near the Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex.
Based on information provided during his detention, a patrol team searched the pharmacy and recovered a 9mm pistol, one magazine, and four rounds of ammunition.
The ISPR stated that Shamsuzzaman suddenly fell ill and lost consciousness following the operation. He was immediately rushed to the local health complex, where doctors declared him dead at approximately 12:25 AM today.
In response to the "regrettable" incident, the military has formed a high-level investigation committee. The ISPR clarified that any personnel found guilty of misconduct would face strict legal action under military law.
