A high-pressure gas leak caused by a ruptured valve near the Uttara–Tongi Bridge forced an emergency shutdown of gas supply to Uttara and surrounding areas on Tuesday.
Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution PLC confirmed the incident in a statement issued Tuesday night. The leak occurred on a service line for an industrial customer, prompting officials to shut down the main 12-inch-diameter distribution pipeline to prevent further danger.
The shutdown has left residents in Uttara, Uttar Khan, Dakshin Khan, and adjacent neighborhoods without gas. Titas stated that emergency teams are currently working to replace the damaged valve.
These valves are critical components of the distribution network, used to regulate gas pressure and flow. Titas expressed regret for the "temporary inconvenience" caused to consumers.
This disruption adds to the ongoing fuel crisis in the capital. Over the past few weeks, Dhaka residents have faced a shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), while the pipeline network has suffered multiple technical failures.
Just earlier this month, a damaged pipeline beneath the Turag River near Aminbazar disrupted supply to Mirpur and Mohammadpur.
Additionally, on January 10, a valve burst near the Gonobhaban on Mirpur Road, causing a several-hour outage before repairs were completed.
