Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman stated that the shortage of judges endowed with humane values represents the most critical challenge facing the country's judiciary.
Speaking as the chief guest at a memorial meeting for Mustafa Monwar held at the Shailkupa Upazila Parishad auditorium on Friday morning, the minister emphasized the urgent need to build a judicial system where people can place their utmost trust and confidence, second only to the Almighty.
"To some, the problem might look one way; to others, it looks completely different. Many will say corruption has touched it, while others will point to touts and brokers. Many will complain about a lack of infrastructure. But to me, the biggest crisis in the judiciary is the lack of judges with humane values," the minister remarked. "If I choose the profession of a judge, I must accept that I did not come to take up this job like any other ordinary occupation in society."
He further added, "We want a judiciary where people can go with absolute trust and confidence, second only to the Creator. The day judges sit in that chair with this mindset, I believe a transparent, independent, impartial, and just judicial system will be established in Bangladesh."
Commenting on the return of Sheikh Hasina, the Law Minister said, "Sheikh Hasina will return in December. I also want to believe that she should return to the country. Let her come in December and go to prison. Let her follow the path of law upon returning home. We say this repeatedly: a person may wield immense power, but the power of the law is even longer. The law will exercise its extended power."
