A month-long residential basic training course for Union Parishad Village Police began in Morelganj, Bagerhat on Monday. Organized by the National Institute of Local Government (NILG) and managed by the Morelganj upazila administration also the program aims to enhance grassroots law enforcement and public service delivery.
Md. Aminul Islam, Director General (Secretary) of the NILG, inaugurated the training virtually as the chief guest. Bagerhat's Deputy Director of Local Government, Mezbah Uddin and District Ansar & VDP Commandant, Shariful Islam also joined the session virtually as special guests. The inauguration ceremony held at the Upazila Parishad conference room, was presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Habibullah.
Forty Village Police members from 16 unions across Morelganj upazila are participating in the comprehensive program.
Several local officials attended the event, including Upazila Engineer Md. Ariful Islam, Education Officer Md. Shefainur Arefin, Women Affairs Officer Ramendranath Biswas, Social Services Officer Gautam Biswas, Disability Affairs Officer Md. Kaykobad Akunji, Program Assistant Tridib Sarkar and Police Sub-Inspector Ibrahim alongside local journalists.
Speaking at the ceremony, UNO Habibullah and the trainers emphasized the vital role Village Police play in maintaining law and order and implementing government services at the community level. They expressed hope that the knowledge and discipline gained through this training will equip the force to provide faster, higher-quality and more efficient services to the public.
