A 28-year-old worker of the Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) was killed and another critically injured after a speeding truck hit them in Chattogram's Sitakunda upazila early Monday.
The fatal accident occurred around 4:30 AM on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in front of the Hakkani Filling Station in the Baraiyadhala area.
The deceased was identified as Md. Imran, son of Nasir Uddin from South Jamgram in Bogura's Kahalu upazila. The injured victim is 50-year-old Md. Zakir Hossain was driving the workers' mini-truck.
According to the Kumira Highway Police Station, the BTCL crew was performing internet connection work in the area when a speeding the sand-laden truck (Dhaka Metro-Ta-18-3195) rammed into Imran and their vehicle. Imran sustained a severe head injury and died at the scene.
Locals quickly rescued the critically injured Zakir and rushed him to the Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex. Following initial treatment, he was transferred to Chattogram Medical College (CMC) Hospital for advanced medical care.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Zia Uddin Bhuiyan of the Kumira Highway Police Station confirmed the incident and the casualties.
