Students and local residents staged a human chain and protest rally in Pabna's Sujanagar upazila on Monday morning demanding a thorough investigation into the alleged misappropriation of crores of taka from a local government college.
The demonstration took place in the Dulai Bazar area along the Pabna-Dhaka Highway the participants also brought out a protest procession.
The demonstrators alleged that massive amounts of money were illegally withdrawn and embezzled from the funds of Government Dr. Jahurul Kamal Degree (Honours) College. According to reports, crores of taka are currently missing and unaccounted for from nine out of the college's 26 bank accounts held at the Janata Bank PNC Dulai branch.
During the rally, protesters stated that corruption and financial irregularities within an educational institution are completely unacceptable. They urged the relevant authorities to conduct a swift and impartial investigation to uncover the truth.
The students and locals demanded immediate legal action against anyone found involved in the embezzlement and called for strict measures to ensure transparency in the college's future financial transactions.
