Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in New York on Tuesday evening to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Expatriate Bangladeshis and BNP activists warmly welcomed him outside JFK Airport and along his route to the Hyatt Grand Central where he will be staying.
Prime Minister accompanied by his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman was received at the airport by top Bangladeshi diplomats.
His primary address to the UNGA is scheduled for the late afternoon of September 24. Throughout his packed four-day visit, Tarique Rahman will prioritize crucial national and global issues. He will lead high-level discussions and deliver opening remarks at side events focusing on the Rohingya crisis, climate action, the existential threat of sea-level rise and maternal health.
Starting September 22, the Prime Minister will engage in intensive diplomatic efforts. His itinerary includes bilateral meetings with several global leaders, including the President of Turkey, the Prime Ministers of Bhutan, Pakistan, Thailand and Croatia and the President of the World Bank.
Additionally the Prime Minister will attend a reception hosted by the US President and hold talks with UN Secretary-General António Guterres. To boost economic and institutional ties, the PM is also scheduled to meet with corporate executives from Boeing, Meta and JPMorgan.
The Prime Minister will conclude his official engagements on September 25 with a meeting with local BNP leaders in the United States before departing for Dhaka later that night.
