Prime Minister Tarique Rahman returned home this morning after concluding a five-day visit to New York for the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). An Emirates flight carrying the Prime Minister, Dr Zubaida Rahman and their entourage landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:21 am.
During his visit, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman delivered his maiden address to the UN General Debate reaffirming Bangladesh's commitment to global peace, dialogue and humanity. He outlined his government’s "3-R strategy" (Recovery, Restoration and Reconstruction) to build a prosperous, democratic Bangladesh focused on job creation and human resource development.
The Prime Minister held high-level bilateral discussions with world leaders including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Discussions focused on expanding trade, investment, energy security and protecting Bangladeshi migrant workers.
Addressing the Rohingya crisis, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasized that safe and dignified repatriation to Myanmar remains the only sustainable solution. He called for urgent international action to resolve the issue. On climate change, he urged global leaders to accelerate emission cuts and secure accessible adaptation finance.
Key economic outcomes of the tour included an agreement between Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Boeing to purchase 11 new aircraft alongside engagements with Wall Street executives and World Bank Group President Ajay Banga to boost foreign investment.
Altogether Bangladeshi delegation participated in around 80 engagements also marking a significant milestone in advancing the country’s diplomatic and economic priorities on the global stage.
