Police arrested 497 individuals across the 11 districts of the Chattogram Range during a 24-hour special anti-drug and law enforcement drive.
The Chattogram Range office released the official figures on Monday.
Chattogram Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abdul Kuddus Chowdhury confirmed the operations and noting that 137 people were apprehended specifically for drug-related offenses. This group included 107 drug users and three drug couriers detained during targeted anti-drug drives, alongside 27 drug dealers held in connection with other regular cases. Authorities filed 25 new cases under the Narcotics Control Act.
During the coordinated operations the law enforcement seized a substantial cache of narcotics including 18,312 Yaba pills, 195 grams of cannabis and 107 liters and 450 milliliters of illicitly distilled liquor. Mobile courts active during the raids sentenced 46 individuals to varying prison terms and collected Tk.11,850 in fines.
The DIG also provided a detailed breakdown of the remaining non-drug arrests. Police detained 75 individuals in regular cases and 128 in previous cases. They also executed 112 outstanding warrants which included 92 arrest warrants and 20 conviction warrants.
Additionally, several preventive arrests were made to maintain regional law and order. These included 17 arrests under Section 34 of the Police Act, 10 under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and 45 under Section 151 of the CrPC and other relevant laws.
