The Narail District Detective Branch (DB) has arrested nine individuals including the suspected ringleader for allegedly running an online gambling and fraud syndicate in Lohagara upazila. Police also seized multiple mobile devices used in the illicit operations.
Acting on a tip-off DB team raided 'Ma Pharmacy' at Jhamarghop Market on Sunday night. During the drive, officers arrested the pharmacy owner, 26-year-old Farhad Hossain along with his associate Sajib Hossain.
The other seven arrestees were identified as Prosenjit Majumdar (30), Jamir Molla (45), Alauddin Molla (28), Lachhu Minhaj (24), Nazmul Molla (26), Farid Hossain (28) and Bibek Biswas (25).
According to law enforcers, the gang lured unsuspecting people into online gambling and digital scams using enticing advertisements. Data recovered from the seized devices uncovered active operations on several betting platforms like 1xBet, Melbet, Ck44.Com and F11. Investigators also found records indicating large-scale electronic financial transactions linked to the racket.
At a press briefing on Monday afternoon, Narail Superintendent of Police Mohammad Al Mamun Sikdar confirmed the details of the raid. He stated that a case has been filed at Lohagara Police Station under the relevant sections of the Gambling Prevention Act. All nine suspects were produced before a local court later that afternoon.
