Security Forces Ensure Peace in CHT Ahead of August 9

Security forces including the Bangladesh Army Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Police and Ansar are coordinating closely to maintain peace and stability across the three districts of the Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT).

Personnel remain on high alert to ensure public safety. Locals report the region is largely peaceful due to joint efforts by the armed forces and civil administration, which actively prevent subversive activities.

Security has been specifically tightened in Bandarban, Rangamati, and Khagrachhari ahead of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples on August 9 to prevent any untoward incidents.

Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner Md Anwar Sadat confirmed that forces are fully prepared for any situation. He noted the district administration holds regular meetings with various ethnic communities to foster communal harmony. While extremist groups occasionally spread misinformation to destabilize the area, law enforcement vigilance effectively counters these attempts.

Although regional armed groups sometimes clash over dominance—which historically disrupts life and risks civilian casualties—intensified joint operations have kept such violence under control.

Khagrachhari Additional Superintendent of Police Md Mizanur Rahman stated that cyber patrols and joint operations are ongoing. "No extremist activities or provocations will be tolerated," he said emphasizing that security is also reinforced to protect tourists visiting the district.

Khagrachhari Hill District Council Chairman Shefalika Tripura praised the sincere efforts of all agencies in preventing divisions between ethnic communities and Bengali residents. "We believe in peaceful coexistence. Everyone must work together to protect harmony in the hills" she added.
