


Houses in Raozan and Rangunia have been set on fire in a planned manner to embarrass the government, said DIG Ahsan Habib Palash of the Chattogram Range. He gave this information at a press conference organized at the Chattogram District Police Office on Tuesday (January 13).
He said that this arson is not an isolated incident. It is a well-planned conspiracy. Its main goal was to create communal tension within the country. At the same time, an attempt has been made to embarrass the government by spreading propaganda about minority oppression in the international community. We have found clear evidence of this in the investigation.
The DIG said that those arrested in these incidents are Monir Hossain, Mohammad Omar Faruk, Mohammad Kabir Hossain, Kartik Dey, Biplob Barua, Mohammad Lokman and Md. Parvez.
Four provocative banners, two containers of kerosene oil and a bottle were recovered from the arrested. An oil-stained lungi and an old black shirt were seized. In addition, a mobile phone, a CNG auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle used to travel to the scene were seized.
He also said that any attempt to commit arson, incitement and destroy social harmony will be strictly suppressed. One of the arrested accused has already given a confessional statement in the court under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. He said that the police operation is continuing to arrest other accomplices based on the information provided by the detainees.
According to the police, in December 2025, several houses were set on fire in different areas of Raozan and Rangunia police stations late at night. Some houses were partially damaged. Some houses were completely destroyed.
After the incident, panic and tension spread in the area. Banners made of plastic bags were recovered from the scene. The banners had communally provocative statements written on them. The names of some political leaders and more than fifty mobile numbers were mentioned there. Based on information, technical analysis and evidence, one person was first arrested from Rangamati Hill District. Later, six more people were arrested in a series of operations. The investigation found the involvement of an organized gang of 15 to 16 people. Information about the involvement of banned organizations with the gang was also found.
