Authorities discovered an illegal mini petrol pump operating inside a house during a consumer rights drive in Santhia Upazila of Pabna District.
The operation was conducted on Tuesday afternoon (March 10) in Dhulauri village by officials of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department.
According to Mahmud Hasan Roni, a government official of the department in Pabna, the house owner, Alauddin, had been selling diesel at higher-than-approved prices by running a mini petrol pump from his residence for a long time.
Acting on a secret tip-off, officials carried out the raid and found the illegal fuel dispensing system inside the house.
During the drive, Alauddin was fined Tk 50,000 for operating the petrol pump without authorization and selling fuel at inflated prices.
Officials also seized around 3,000 litres of diesel from the premises. The confiscated diesel was later sold at the government-fixed price.
Authorities said such drives will continue to prevent illegal fuel sales and protect consumers from unfair pricing.
