A massive joint operation is underway in the Jungle Solimpur area of Sitakunda, Chattogram. Starting at 6:00 AM on Monday, March 9, a combined force of 4,000 personnel from the Army, Police, RAB, and BGB began the raid.
The operation, sanctioned by the Ministry of Home Affairs, is expected to continue until Tuesday afternoon.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (Media) Md. Russell, the force includes 550 Army personnel, 1,800 Police officers, 330 APBN members, 400 RAB personnel, and 120 BGB members. The mission is supported by 15 Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), three dog squads, and three standby helicopters. Law enforcement teams have entered the rugged terrain through multiple access points.
This coordinated crackdown follows a fatal incident on January 19, when RAB-7 Deputy Assistant Director Motaleb Hossain Bhuiyan was killed by terrorists while attempting an arrest in the area. A case was subsequently filed at Sitakunda Police Station naming Mohammad Yasin as the primary accused, along with 200 others.
Jungle Solimpur spans approximately 3,100 acres of hilly terrain near the Bayezid Bostami area. Despite being private land worth thousands of crores, the area has long been a focal point for illegal hill cutting and criminal activity.
