


The government has declared a one-day public holiday on March 18 (Wednesday) between the pre-scheduled holidays of Shab-e-Qadr and Eid-ul-Fitr.
A notification in this regard was issued on Sunday (March 8) by the Rules Division of the Ministry of Public Administration by order of the President.
According to the notification, all government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous and private offices will remain closed on that day.
However, employees of several essential services will not be included in the holiday. These include services related to electricity, water, gas and other fuels, fire service operations, port activities, sanitation and cleaning services, telephone and internet services, postal services, and transport services linked to these sectors.
Hospitals and emergency medical services will also remain operational. Doctors, healthcare workers, and vehicles involved in transporting medicines, medical equipment, and patients will be outside the scope of the holiday.
Offices involved in emergency operations will continue their activities as required.
The Bangladesh Bank will issue necessary instructions regarding banking operations during the holiday period. Similarly, the Supreme Court of Bangladesh will provide directives concerning court activities.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment will issue separate instructions on general holidays for private industrial establishments, factories, and institutions in line with the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006.
