Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed made a surprise visit to the Ramna Model Police Station of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Saturday (May 2) morning. The visit, unannounced, aimed to observe the station’s functioning and ensure police stations nationwide operate without brokers.
Faisal Hasan, Public Relations Officer of the Home Ministry, confirmed the visit.
A video released by the ministry shows the Home Minister entering the officer-in-charge’s (OC) room directly. Four to five people were present, including two policemen from another station. The Home Minister asked for their identities and the purpose of their visit.
During the inspection, he visited the duty officer’s room, the jail, and other sections. He checked the jail’s condition, capacity, and usability, observed a prisoner’s meal, and inquired about washroom and fan availability. He also inspected the police mess.
The Home Minister stayed for about 10–11 minutes, speaking with the OC, duty officers, and on-duty police personnel, listening attentively to their concerns. He instructed the OC: “If anyone misuses the police station in the name of BNP or any political party, it will be your responsibility.”
He emphasized serving the public with honesty, fairness, and dedication. He also warned that proven allegations of negligence or corruption against any police member would result in strict disciplinary action.
