Two Oil Tanker carrying 53,000 tonnes of diesel from China and India have arrived at Chattogram port, providing much-needed relief to the country's energy sector.
Given Bangladesh's daily requirement of 12,500 tonnes, this fresh shipment will cover roughly four days of national demand. According to the local agent, Pride Shipping Line, the Liberian-flagged "Lila Kingston" anchored on Friday afternoon. This was followed on Saturday morning by the Panamanian-flagged "Private Solana," which arrived at the Kutubdia anchorage carrying 34,000 tonnes of diesel.
Nazrul Islam, Managing Partner of Pride Shipping Line, confirmed that seven fuel tankers are currently stationed at the port’s dolphin jetties and outer anchorage. Offloading via lighterage vessels is already underway for one of the ships.
The Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) imported 6 lakh tonnes of fuel oil in April. For May, the BPC has set a target to import another 6 lakh tonnes, including 1 lakh tonne of crude oil.
These consistent shipments are vital for maintaining an uninterrupted energy supply across the country.
