


International Women’s Day was observed in Faridpur on March 8 with the theme: “To ensure women’s and girls’ rights and justice, we want equal representation of women in politics and elections.”
The Faridpur District Administration and the District Women’s Affairs Department organized the programme in collaboration with Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).
A discussion meeting was held to mark the day. Members of the Awareness Citizens Committee (SANAK), government officials, NGOs and local citizens participated in the programme.
The event was inaugurated by releasing balloons and festoons at the district administration premises by Member of Parliament Nayab Yusuf Ahmed of Faridpur-3 constituency.
The discussion session was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room and was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamrul Hasan Mollah.
Among others present were Faridpur Police Superintendent Md. Nazrul Islam, District Civil Surgeon Dr. Mahmudul Hasan and Additional Police Superintendent Fatema Islam.
Heads of different government departments, journalists, NGO representatives and more than a hundred men and women attended the event.
On the occasion, a concept paper prepared by TIB was distributed by SANAK Faridpur. In the paper, SANAK Vice-President Monowara Morsheda Chowdhury presented a 14-point demand to the government, including reducing corruption as a key step to prevent violence and abuse against women.
