The upazila administration carried out an eviction drive to free encroached sidewalks in Phulbari municipality of Dinajpur.
The drive was conducted on Sunday afternoon at the Nimtala intersection area of the town.
According to the administration, several shops and temporary structures had been occupying the sidewalks beside the road for a long time. As a result, pedestrians were forced to walk on the road instead of using the sidewalks, which often caused traffic congestion and increased the risk of road accidents.
The drive was led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ahmed Hasan and Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Samiul Islam. Officer-in-Charge of Phulbari Police Station Abdul Latib Shah, along with members of the police and Ansar, was also present.
During the operation, illegally built roadside structures were demolished and the sidewalks were cleared of encroachment.
The administration said such drives will continue to ensure safe and smooth movement for pedestrians in the town.
Local residents welcomed the initiative, saying the cleared sidewalks will make it easier for people to walk and help reduce traffic congestion and accidents.
