Kaliganj Marks National Disaster Preparedness Day with Rally and Drill

National Disaster Preparedness Day 2026 was observed in Kaliganj Upazila with the theme “We will fight in disaster preparedness, build a Bangladesh of youth.”

The day began on Tuesday morning with a colorful rally organised by the upazila administration. The rally marched through different roads of the upazila to raise public awareness about disaster preparedness.

Later, a discussion meeting and a disaster response drill were held. Members of the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence demonstrated rescue operations following earthquakes and fires. The team also showed how injured people can be rescued and provided with first aid during emergencies.

The discussion meeting was presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shamima Akhter Jahan. Among others present were Upazila Livestock Officer Ferdousur Rahman, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md Mazhanur Rahman and Fire Service and Civil Defence Officer Shariful Islam.

Speakers at the event highlighted the importance of increasing public awareness to reduce disaster risks. Students and local residents of the upazila also participated in the programme.
