Train services between Dhaka and Mymensingh have resumed after a nearly three-hour suspension caused by the breakdown of the engine of the “Balaka Commuter” train in Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila.
The engine malfunction occurred near Satkhamair Railway Station around 4:30 PM on Saturday.
A local resident reported that the train, which was Dhaka-bound from Mymensingh, made a loud noise from the engine as it was departing Kawraid Station. The train suddenly slowed, and oil sprayed from the engine, hitting passengers and sparking panic.
According to Md Shamim, Sreepur Railway Station Master, services restarted around 7:15 PM on Saturday.
The delay was resolved after a replacement engine was successfully brought in and attached to the stranded Balaka Commuter train.
The engine failure caused several other trains to be stranded at nearby stations, leading to frustration and delays for numerous passengers.
