


The United Nations and the United States have today conveyed their profound sympathy and solidarity with those impacted by the earthquake that struck Dhaka on Friday, as both organizations offered their support while local authorities continue to evaluate the effects of the tremor.
In a statement released on social media, the UN in Bangladesh indicated that it is vigilantly observing the situation and has extended its solidarity along with heartfelt condolences to everyone affected. The U.S. Embassy in Dhaka, in a separate communication, expressed its deepest sympathies to all individuals impacted by the earthquake that occurred today.
At least six individuals lost their lives and many others sustained injuries as a 5.7 magnitude earthquake shook Dhaka and several nearby districts this morning.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) reported that the tremor occurred at 10:38 am, with its epicenter identified at Madhabdi in Narsingdi, approximately 13 kilometers east of the BMD Seismic Centre located in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) subsequently indicated that the epicenter was actually 14 kilometers west-southwest of Narsingdi, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
