The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has reported that a total of 198 murders occurred in the capital over the last ten months, averaging approximately 20 murders per month.
DMP Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman shared this information during a briefing with journalists on Tuesday (18 November). He stated that the police have been successful in uncovering the motives behind most of these 198 reported incidents.
The DMP official provided an update on the high-profile killing of Jubo Dal leader Golam Kibriya in Pallabi.
Kibriya was fatally shot on Monday (17 November) at around 6:40 pm inside a hardware shop in C Block, near the old Pallabi Police Station.
CCTV footage captured the incident, showing three masked and helmeted individuals entering the shop. The assailants shot Kibriya at close range and fled the scene in just 10 seconds.
Police are actively investigating the case. One suspect has been detained so far, but the remaining two accused are currently on the run. The DMP expects the full motive behind the murder to be uncovered shortly after the remaining two suspects are apprehended.
