Youth Shot Dead, 11-Year-Old Girl Injured in Chattogram Shooting

A young man was shot dead and an 11-year-old girl was seriously injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire in the city’s Bayezid area on Thursday night.

The incident occurred around 10:00 PM in the Shaheed Minar Goli area of Raufabad Colony. The deceased, identified as Raju, originally from Raozan, was reportedly visiting his sister’s house when the attackers targeted him. He died on the spot.

During the shooting, a child named Reshmi Akhter was caught in the crossfire while walking to a nearby shop. Her brother, Faisal Ahmed, stated that the gunmen began firing indiscriminately, and a bullet struck Reshmi in the eye.

She was rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) at approximately 11:00 PM. Following primary treatment, duty doctors admitted her to Ward 28. Reshmi is the daughter of Riaz Ahmed and Sabera Begum, residents of the locality where the shooting took place.

Police from Bayezid station are currently investigating the motive behind the attack and working to identify the perpetrators.
