Residents of Chandraganj held a joyous procession on Thursday evening following the government's approval of a proposal to divide Lakshmipur Sadar and establish Chandraganj as a new Upazila.

The celebration broke out immediately after the proposal was passed during an ECNEC (Executive Committee of the National Economic Council) meeting. People from all walks of life joined the march, chanting slogans and expressing their gratitude to the Prime Minister for fulfilling a long-standing local demand.

At a brief rally following the procession, community leaders highlighted that the new administrative status would bring government services directly to the people’s doorsteps and accelerate regional development.

The newly approved Chandraganj Upazila spans 174 square kilometers with a population of approximately 304,091. It is formed by carving out nine unions from Lakshmipur Sadar: Bashikpur, Mandari, Hajipara, Chandraganj, Dighali, Charshahi, Duttapara, Uttar Jaypur, Kushakali.
