A mobile court has sentenced a man to six months in prison for consuming drugs in Monohardi upazila of Narsingdi.
The convict, Mosharraf Hossain, a resident of the Ekduaria area, was arrested red-handed on Tuesday (June 16) during an anti-narcotics drive.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Sahida of the Narsingdi Narcotics Control Department raided the Ekduaria area. According to locals, Mosharraf had been involved in drug use and trafficking for an extended period.
Following his confession and the evidence recovered on-site, a mobile court convicted him under the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. Monohardi Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Sajib Mia, who conducted the mobile court, handed down the six-month sentence.
Officials reaffirmed that these operations will continue as part of the government's 'zero tolerance' policy against drugs. Local residents have welcomed the administration's proactive stance in curbing the local drug trade.
