The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has officially started the process to extradite former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed from the United Arab Emirates.
ACC Deputy Director of Public Relations, Md. Akhtarul Islam, confirmed the development to Kalbela on Monday (June 15). He stated that a formal request letter will soon be sent to the UAE government through the Ministry of Home Affairs, and officials are actively preparing the necessary paperwork.
The move comes after UAE authorities urged Bangladesh to submit a formal extradition request. Ahmed was arrested by Dubai Police on June 12 while in transit from London to another Asian country. The arrest was executed based on an Interpol Red Notice triggered by an ongoing ACC corruption case.
The UAE has requested that Bangladesh submit the required extradition documents within 30 days to complete the transfer.
