The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has asked Interpol to issue red notices for the return of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 10 other fugitives facing corruption charges.
According to ACC Assistant Director Tanzir Ahmed, the request aims to ensure the accused face trial in Bangladesh. Alongside Hasina, the list includes her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, her daughter Saima Wazed Putul, former Land Minister Saifuzzaman Javed, his wife Rukmila Zaman, S Alam Group Chairman Saiful Alam, and several of his family members.
The ACC stated this international legal step is necessary to secure their return. The move has sparked renewed public debate on the effectiveness of international law enforcement cooperation. Interest in the process recently grew following reports of the arrest of former IGP Benazir Ahmed in Dubai.
However, securing extraditions via Interpol often faces delays due to complex cross-border laws. Legal experts cite ongoing complications in other high-profile red notice attempts—such as those involving British MP Tulip Siddiq—as examples of the systemic challenges in international extradition.
