Police recovered the body of a 105-year-old man from the Betangi River in Bahirbunia village, under the Paikgachha upazila of Khulna, on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Brinshipad Mondal, a resident of nearby Putulkhali village.

Locals spotted the body on the riverbank near Munsur Sardar's house early Monday and notified the authorities. Paikgachha police promptly arrived, inspected the scene, and recovered the body.

Ujjwal Mondal, the deceased's son, stated that his father had been experiencing long-standing mental health issues. Brinshipad left home around 9:00 PM on Sunday. Despite searching various locations overnight, the family could not locate him until locals informed them of the discovery the next morning.

Based on initial findings, police and family members suspect the elderly man accidentally fell into the river in the dark and drowned.

Paikgachha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Kibria confirmed the incident, stating that following the initial investigation, the body was handed over to the family without an autopsy upon their request. Standard legal procedures regarding the incident have been completed.
