Former Bangladesh Army officer Major General (Retd.) Mahbub Haider Khan grew emotional upon returning to his childhood school after six decades.
Revisiting Ambika Charan Laha (AC Laha) Pilot High School in Morelganj, Bagerhat, where he laid the foundation for his life’s successes, he said he felt transported back to his youth. He arrived at the school grounds by helicopter on Monday (June 15) afternoon.
He was accompanied by his friend, former Nepal Army Major General Jhankar Kadayat; renowned bird expert Kazi Ahmed Hossain; and his son, Manasir Khan. Upon his arrival, teachers, current and former students, and local dignitaries warmly welcomed him. He toured the century-old institution's classrooms and playground, sharing fond memories of his student life.
Speaking at a reception, Major General Mahbub said, “This school is not only the foundation of my education but also a primary institution that shaped my character and values. Coming back here after 60 years feels like a return to my childhood.”
He urged current students to build their lives on honesty, discipline, and patriotism, emphasizing that hard work and perseverance can overcome any obstacle.
The students and teachers were deeply inspired by his life story. School authorities noted that the visit from such an accomplished alumnus would serve as a lasting source of inspiration for the current generation.
