


Police have arrested three people, including the victim’s own brother and two employees of his shop, in connection with the murder of businessman Faruk Sheikh in Goalanda, Rajbari.
Faruk, 46, was allegedly slashed and hacked to death at his home in the Haulikeutil area near Paur Jam Tola Bazar in Goalanda on Saturday (August 22).
The arrested suspects are:
Police said the three were arrested late Saturday night from their respective area. Two sharp weapons allegedly used in the killing were also recovered.
At a press briefing at the Rajbari Superintendent of Police’s office on Sunday afternoon, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Md. Shamsul Haque said the suspects confessed during police interrogation.
According to police, Bareq allegedly planned the murder over a dispute involving family property and resentment toward his brother over his personal conduct and alleged mistreatment of their mother.
Police said Bareq and the two employees finalized the plan at Daulatdia Railway Station on Friday night. The employees were allegedly given Tk 1,700 for temporary expenses.
According to the preliminary account, the three entered Faruk’s house around 1pm on Saturday. Bareq allegedly remained outside to keep watch while the two employees attacked Faruk, who was asleep, with sharp weapons. Police said the attackers cut his throat and severed both his hands before leaving the weapons near a garbage pile beside an abandoned toilet.
Faruk’s father, Khalek Sheikh, filed a murder case at the police station on Saturday night.
The suspects were produced before a Rajbari court on Sunday. Police said they expressed willingness to make voluntary confessional statements under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the court proceedings were underway.
Police and a CID team from Faridpur collected evidence from the crime scene as part of the investigation.
