Australia leveled their two-Test series against Bangladesh with a crushing innings-and-51-run win in Mackay with bouncing back strongly from their nine-wicket defeat in Darwin.
Left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc was the star for finishing with match figures of 10 for 51 his fourth career 10-wicket haul. Spinner Nathan Lyon claimed three wickets including the last two in three balls right after tea to seal the win before day two's tea break.
Bangladesh were bowled out for just 95 following a first-innings total of 46. This marked the first time in Test history that a team was dismissed for under 100 runs in both innings of the same match. Australia's own first-innings score of 210 stands as the fourth-lowest total to still produce an innings victory.
Chasing a 146-run target just to make Australia bat again, Bangladesh slumped to 39 for three by lunch and never recovered also losing wickets steadily through the middle session.
Earlier, Australia had resumed their innings with only two wickets in hand. Cameron Green top-scored with 67, adding 38 crucial runs for the ninth wicket alongside Lyon before falling lbw to a Shoriful Islam yorker. Fast bowler Shoriful finished with career-best figures of 7 for 47 though his effort was overshadowed by Starc's dominant performance.
Green called it "a good series" adding that Australia's response after last week's loss was "pretty special."
The result raises fresh questions about Australia's batting depth ahead of their challenging three-Test tour of South Africa in October, even as their bowling attack proved its enduring threat.
