


To mark National Rural Development Day 2026, the Upazila Administration and the Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) jointly organized a rally and discussion meeting in Morelganj on Monday.
The day’s events began at noon with a rally that started from the Upazila complex and paraded through the main roads of the town.
Following the rally, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Habibullah chaired a discussion session. Bagerhat-4 Member of Parliament Abdul Alim attended as the chief guest.
In his address, MP Abdul Alim emphasized the importance of grassroots progress, stating, "Our country will only prosper if we can develop our rural areas. Transforming our villages is key to transforming our society." He urged local leaders and citizens to unite for continued rural development.
Upazila BRDB Officer Deepika Tarafdar delivered the welcome address under this year's theme, "Bangladesh first, a developed and prosperous country."
Other notable speakers at the event included Upazila Muktijoddha Commander Shah Alam Babul, Rural Development Association Vice-President Shahidul Islam, Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Saiful Islam, Municipal Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Rafiqul Islam, Upazila Youth Development Officer Zahidul Islam, and local journalist Ganesh Pal.
