Garment workers blocked the Mohakhali-Tejgaon road in Dhaka on Tuesday morning, demanding payment of outstanding salaries and benefits. The blockade halted traffic in both directions, causing severe congestion and disrupting commuters and office-goers.

Workers began gathering on the road early Tuesday (June 16) and continued their protest throughout the morning. Long traffic queues formed in the surrounding areas as vehicles were unable to pass through the route.

Law enforcement personnel were deployed to the scene to maintain order and monitor the situation.

The protesting workers presented the following seven demands:

  1. Payment of May salaries.
  2. Payment of holiday allowances for 2025.
  3. Payment of area bill dues for December 2025.
  4. Payment of notice pay benefits.
  5. Payment of four months (120 days) of wages and allowances in accordance with the Labour Act.
  6. Full payment of service benefits owed to all workers and employees under the Labour Act.
  7. An end to harassment of workers and employees, including police cases, threats, intimidation, and physical or mental abuse related to the recovery of their dues.

No reports of violence were immediately available. Authorities were continuing efforts to ease traffic congestion and address the workers' demands.
